The members of the Student Affairs Committee gathered on Zoom for the first time since before the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic. The SAC members received an update on the amazing response of RTSO members to the pandemic including the sharing of COVID knowledge, patient management strategies, resources and specifics for various soft goods and PPE along with loads of emotional support. The RT faculty hopes to convey their sense of pride and on-going commitment to the RT profession in Ontario to student members of SAC. Like a drop in a quiet lake, our hope is that the ripple effect of our positive attitude spreads amongst their respective cohorts across Ontario and into the clinical settings where they soon will find new experiences or employment. Never have we needed such a strong commitment to each other – one that has grown from our passion for quality healthcare and continues to shine as we work to stamp out COVID-19 while protecting each other and our families.
The members of the SAC will soon be hosting information sessions with the year 1 students at their respective schools to inform them of the role of the RTSO in Ontario, the contributions made over the past year and why becoming a student member is valuable. Look for an up-to-date PowerPoint presentation during these sessions – thanks to Greg for these revisions!
The student Co-Chair initiative for this committee continues as we “flip” the committee leadership onto two students for the next 6-8 weeks. Hannah Erhardt from Conestoga and Erica Mack from Fanshawe will work with Greg and myself to propel the students through RT Week activities as well as setting the agenda for the next meeting and preparing a report for Airwaves as well as the October Board of Directors meeting. Hopefully this format will encourage our young RT’s to participate in advocacy groups like the RTSO that will enhance the future of their profession.
Thank you to all the SAC members for a great start to the 2020/2021 school year!!
