Geneviève Breault-Tozer, RRT
Hello!
I’m a graduate of Algonquin College and have been a Respiratory Therapist for over a decade and have worked in healthcare for over 20 years. There was a time where I was unable to find employment as an RRT, so I started my own company with every intention to return to critical care. It was an incredible challenge to maintain currency through that time, but I endeavoured to and often used the RTSO website resources for refresher information and continuing education. It wasn’t until the pandemic where I was able, once again, to return to full practice. As stressful as it was to have to relearn all aspects of clinical care, it was even more stressful to re-enter acute care practice at a time when our profession and healthcare as a whole was being pushed to its limits. I currently work at Southlake in Newmarket and Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston. I’ve predominantly worked in critical care, but recently have been gaining experience in our PFT lab as well as the OR.
I’ve been invited to transition into the position of Editor-in-Chief of RTSO Airwaves, the RTSO’s quarterly publication – a humbling invitation which I enthusiastically accepted before letting the weight of the commitment fully sink in. As that realization dawned on me, so too did the promise of becoming a meaningful contributor to our cause, and I hope to draw in others who wish to do the same.
I’m coming on board with the RTSO with very little more than a passion for advocacy, a knack for all things digital, collecting and telling stories, and being the loudest person in the room. I want to be loud for us, for the profession, in order to be the megaphone of our message. As Shawna MacDonald once wrote: “Let’s foster our collaborative culture to further inspire and spark change!”
I have set for myself the formidable task of building engagement and interest with our broader respiratory community, to grow both our membership and RTSO Airwaves readership. I’ll be on the lookout for more contributors, hoping to fill positions on an Editorial Board, and seek feedback about what you, the member, wants. I look forward to connecting with you!
