the Board of Directors as Secretary

RTSO Secretary Role Description
Description and Time commitments
The position of Secretary is for a 2-year term, which can be extended for up to two terms or a maximum of 4 years.
The position of Secretary is an Executive in the organization and is expected to attend Board meetings, Executive meetings and any other meetings requested by the President or President-Elect. The Secretary may not miss more than 3 Board meetings per calendar year, held monthly. The monthly time commitment for meetings is between 2-4 hours.
As part of the Executive, the Secretary will participate in the Annual General Meeting and the annual educational conference, and is strongly encouraged to attend the Leadership Summit.
Duties of the Secretary of a Non-profit Corporation
The Secretary position of a non-profit organization plays a critical role in fostering communication (along with other Board members).
The Secretary will declare any conflicts of interest as they may pertain to the position on the RTSO Board of Directors.
General Expectations
You will be in good standing with the RTSO and the CRTO.
As a Board member you will enforce and follow the RTSO bylaws, policies and procedures, and any governing legislation for non-profit organizations.
You will support the vision and mission of the RTSO, and will be expected to assist, direct and advise as a member of the Board on issues related to the profession by sharing your skills and expertise. You will support the decisions made by the Board and come prepared to actively participate in Board and other meetings.
You will assist in actively engaging and recruiting RTSO members during the term(s) of this position.
Accountability
The Secretary is accountable to the Board of Directors and the membership.
The Secretary or delegate files a copy of the final, approved minutes and ensures that this copy is maintained in the corporate records.
Bylaws
The Secretary, as part of the Executive, will ensure that an up-to-date copy of the bylaws is available for meetings upon request.
Meetings
The Secretary participates in Board meetings as a voting member. In the absence of the President/President-Elect, the Secretary calls the meeting to order. The secretary (or delegate) records meeting minutes as described above including materials for the Annual General Meeting and/or for an Executive Committee.
