PART – TIME RESPIRATORY THERAPIST (0.5 FTE)

The Dufferin Area Family Health Team currently has an opportunity for a part-time Respiratory
Therapist (0.5 or 18.75 hours per week) to join our compassionate and dynamic team of health care
providers.
Family Health Teams (FHT’s) use a patient-centered approach to primary health care that brings
together physicians and other health-care professionals to co-ordinate the highest possible quality of
care for patients – when they need it, as close to home as possible. FHTs are a key component of
Ontario’s health-care plan to reduce wait times, improve access to doctors and nurses, and keep
Ontarians healthy.

Are you…
• Skillful in assessment and diagnostic procedures, including spirometry, to assist in the
diagnosis of common respiratory conditions such as COPD and Asthma.
• Able to demonstrate the ability to remain up to date with current guidelines for respiratory
and smoking cessation practice with indirect guidance and support.
• Knowledgeable in assessing patients’ response to treatments and able to consult with
physicians, and other health care staff, to help develop and modify individual patient care
plans.
• Knowledgeable of and able to educate patients on smoking cessation and respiratory
pharmacology and at home respiratory equipment.
• Able to work independently at designated sites within the Dufferin Area Family Health
Team, but also be able to participate in care teams and support groups that support the
needs of the respiratory and smoking cessation programs and patients associated with those
programs.

We are looking for someone with …
• Accreditation from a Respiratory Therapy program,
• Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario,
• 3-5 years clinical experience working with patients conducting spirometry, lung health
assessment, management, treatment, and education including the development and
delivery of health education and promotion programs in an inter-professional primary care
setting,
• Demonstrated ability to provide smoking cessation services and patient support,
• Proficiency in Microsoft office software and PS Suite is considered an asset,
• Basic CPR certification, or willing to obtain,
• Current Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle,
• Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE), or willing to obtain,
• TEACH certification, or willing to obtain, and
• Certified Tobacco Educator (CTE) is considered an asset.
