As part of the Ontario Smoke Free Act the Ministry of Health Promotion is funding a series of educational workshops aimed at training health care professionals in the public, private and non-profit sectors who provide counseling services to people who use tobacco. The TEACH (Training Enhancement in Applied Cessation Counseling and Health) Program is the corner stone to this program. The program is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of health care professionals in the delivery of intensive tobacco cessation interventions.

For those who are interested you can obtain certification from the University of Toronto in the delivery of intensive tobacco cessation interventions.

The requirements for certification include:

  • Completing an online course.
  • Attending the Core Course – 3 days
  • Attending one Specialist course - 2 days such as Mental Health/Addictive Disorders, Pregnancy, Rainbow Tobacco Intervention/LGBTTQ
