Membership in the RTSO is available in the following Categories:
PRACTICING MEMBERSHIP
As a Practicing Member of the RTSO, you are a person holding a valid certificate of registration from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario of the General, Limited or Graduate class and you practice in the province of Ontario. As a Practicing Member, you are entitled to the following benefits of membership:

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
As an Associate Member of the RTSO, you are a Respiratory Therapist not practicing in the province of Ontario, or any person with an interest in Respiratory Therapy. You do not hold a valid certificate of registration from the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario in the General, Limited or Graduate class, but you may hold an Inactive class certificate. As an Associate Member, you are entitled to the following benefits of membership:

- College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario Representation
- Government Representation on Matters of Interest to the Profession

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
As a student member of the RTSO, you have commenced training in Respiratory Therapy in an institution approved by the Canadian Medical Association/Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists Conjoint Committee on Accreditation of Training Programs for Respiratory Therapy. Once you have graduated, you are no longer eligible for Student Member status.As a Student Member, you are entitled to the following benefits:
- Voting Status at all Annual and Special Meetings of the RTSO (after first student year)
- Enhanced Communications of the Profession
- College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario Representation
- Government Representation on Matters of Interest to the Profession

HOSPITAL RT GROUP PLAN
For any Ontario hospital that wants to financially support its RT Department RTSO Annual Membership Fee, we offer a group rate:
Register 6 members [$750] for the cost of 5 members = $625

Renewing 2009/2010 Memberships
- Members that paid their 2009/2010 membership fees (not including insurance) of $105 directly to the RSTO will be reimbursed a pro-rated figure of $25 + GST to reflect the change in the membership calendar year. Refund will not be processed until after payment in full is received for 2010/2011 Membership.
- Members that paid RTSO direct for covering membership and liability insurance ($105 + $75.60) must renew in June 2010 using a special form that will be remitted to the members’ address on record (please advise the RTSO office of any change ASAP). DO NOT APPLY ON LINE.
**Errors & Omissions Liability Insurance coverage: $2M/incident / $4M aggregate; Nil Deductible
Criminal Defence Reimbursement: $100,000/incident / $100,000 Aggregate;
Disciplinary Defense: $10,000/insured / $250,000 Policy Aggregate
HONOURARY MEMBERSHIP
As an Honourary Member of the RTSO, you have been recognized by the Board of Directors of the RTSO for your long time dedication to the Profession of Respiratory Therapy and to the Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario. Since 1993, all Honourary Members have been recipients of the RTSO Lifetime Achievement Award. The Lifetime Achievement Award is a bi-annual award given to a Registered Respiratory Therapist(s) who has been registered for a minimum of 20 years and who has the made a significant contribution to the profession through representing, advocating, and advancing profession. You may not be a member of the RTSO Board of Directors at the time the award is considered or awarded.

RTSO Special Interest Groups
Membership in the RTSO's Special Interest Groups is open to Practising or Associate Members in good standing of the RTSO. Currently, the following Special Interest Groups have been formed and are recognized by the Board of Directors and the Membership of the RTSO:
Anaesthesia Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario (ARTAO)
Ontario Association of Homecare Respiratory Therapists (OAHRT)
First Year Graduates are Free unless requesting Errors & Omissions Liability Insurance coverage. In this case, the Graduate must register as a Practicing Member and complete the appropirate membership form.
